"Home and Away: Her Russian Impressionism" August -September 2015

Kansas City, Mo. On Friday, August 7, 2015, from 5-10 pm the Todd Weiner Gallery will host a reception for “Home and Away: Her Russian Impressionism” by Olga Hotujac.
Russian artist Olga Hotujac depicts her version of iconic Kansas City cityscapes. From her unique perspective, Hotujac takes it to the street to capture rarely seen vantage points of popular areas such as the Plaza, Loose Park, and the Kauffman Performing Arts Center. Hotujac’s style is reminiscent of classical Impressionism. Her use of bold color and atmospheric qualities detailing various moments of the day highlight her rigorous traditional training. She received her Master of Fine Arts degree in 2006 from the Stroganov Moscow State University of Arts and Industry in Moscow, Russia.
In her show “Home and Away: Her Russian Impressionism” Hotujac paints using both a pallete knife and a brush to create multilayered oil paintings on canvas. In “Kansas City Plaza Plein Air” Hotujac focuses on an onion-domed rooftop over the edge of the Plaza. The onion-domed roof is iconic of Russian architecture and beautifully crafted onto many buildings of the Plaza. Hotujac evokes the mood of late afternoon by utilizing colors of the fading sun.
Another unique element of Hotujac’s art practice is her fastidious documentation of each work of art. She creates a time-lapse video to intimately connect viewers to each painting as is comes to life. For Home and Away: Her Russian Impressionism at the Todd Weiner Gallery the video accompanying each painting in the exhibition will be on exhibition as part of her show.
